February XX, 2008
Dear ________________,
As a Virginian concerned with how our deteriorating transportation system affects each of us, every day, I ask that the General Assembly continue to work toward keeping its commitment to providing Virginia with a long-term, sustainable transportation funding solution in the 2008 session.
Although transportation was addressed and funding was received during last year's General Assembly session, we still have a long way to go toward providing the Commonwealth with a long-term solution to its transportation funding crisis.
At a time when we have more deaths occurring on our highways, increasing congestion across the state, a lack of multi-modal transportation alternatives and millions of dollars in un-met maintenance needs, our current transportation package falls drastically short of meeting our well-documented needs. As you work through this legislative session and begin working to fix our current transportation package, I ask that you do not take any funding away from our current plan. If it is deemed necessary to remove certain items from the current funding package, ensure they are replaced with additional and/or new revenue sources.
It is time for a long-term, sustainable, multimodal, statewide transportation funding solution and I urge you to work during this General Assembly session to fix the Commonwealth’s current transportation funding package. This is not an issue that we can afford to overlook.
Sincerely,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
