Greater Springfield is just emerging from the Springfield Interchange road project, one of the largest highway construction projects in the U.S., having a price tag of $676 million. The project will be completed in late 2007.
Just as Greater Springfield is breathing a sigh of relief, the Pentagon’s Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) announced that it will be relocating more than 17,000 employees to Ft. Belvoir and the Engineer Proving Grounds (EPG). TAGS is working to educate businesses and residents and involve them in the planning process to help ensure that a balanced transportation network is included in the final BRAC plans for EPG: bus and rail service, pedestrian and bicycle pathways, and ridesharing, to name few. Most importantly, we are your voice to ensure that Greater Springfield’s transportation issues are adequately represented. We will stay apprised of our community’s transportation needs and advocate the best course of action. We are currenlty engaged in a grass roots initiative to campaign for much needed dedicated funding for transportation in Northern Virgina. Join our efforts now.
S80 & S91 Driver of the Quarter Contest - This program started in January 2007. A driver will be picked each quarter starting to receive a $50 gift certificate to a store of their choice. The Driver of the Quarter will be picked based on rider comments, driver performance and customer service. Share comments on a driver.
Fairfax Connector South County Route Changes - Effective Oct. 15, 2006 Fairfax Connector bus service in south Fairfax County implemented route and schedule changes as follows:
Routes 123 and 310: These two separate routes, which connect at the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Station, will be combined to form one route, named Route 310. The new Route 310 schedule will be a combination of the current Route 123 schedule and a modification of the current Route 310 schedule.
Route 301: Service on Lantern Place will be discontinued. Instead, buses will enter and exit the Vantage community using Vantage Drive and Rolling Stone Way. The Vantage and Hayfield Farm communities will be bypassed by the last westbound trip at 9:35 p.m. due to lack of ridership in these communities at that time of night.
For added convenience the Fairfax Connector Store has relocated to the Franconia-Springfield METRO station. View the opening day ribbon cutting picture.
“Connections Springfield” - In spring of 2006 TAGS participated in a research initiative conducted by the Urban Land Institute. As part of it's mandate, the study reviewed propsals for transportation changes and enhancement in Central Springfield. TAGS' near term objectives include working with FCDOT/METRO to determine transit needs associated with KSI Midtown Springfield, the Springfield Mall revitalization and BRAC. View results of study.
New Buses for the TAGS S80 route - 6 new buses for the S-80 route are now in operation.
