On September 13, 2005, TAGS, the Northern
Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) and the Virginia
Transit Association (VTA) sponsored a Transportation Tour
for members of the Virginia General Assembly to help educate
legislators regarding pressing transportation issues of Northern
Virginia. This event is planned to be the first of an on-going
series of events to facilitate the relationship between Northern
Virginia and other parts of Virginia as well as between local
and state governments.
Among the elected officials participating were:
Virginia Delegate Al Eisenberg
Virginia Delegate Joe May
Virginia Delegate Ed Scott
Virginia Delegate Leo Wardrup
Fairfax County Supervisor Dana Kauffman
During the tour, legislators rode a Metrobus to the Franconia-Springfield
Metro Station, where they boarded a train to Ballston. In
Arlington they heard presentations about smart growth in Arlington,
Northern Virginia transit issues and mobility needs, pubic
opinion about transportation issues, dedicated revenue for
Metro, status of Metro, and VRE priorities. Presenters included
developers, transportation organizations and local government
officials. After the presentations they rode Metrorail back
to Springfield.
